Internal Job Title: Senior Principal Scientist

Location: Cambridge, MA, onsite

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Principal Scientist to lead our Large Scale Biology efforts in HTB Cambridge. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in imaging technology, assay development, and complex cell models. This role requires collaboration with various departments, including Discovery Sciences and other Biomedical Research Disease areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Large Scale Biology efforts in HTB Cambridge, working with matrixed biology teams across Discovery Sciences and other Biomedical Research Disease areas.

  • Develop and implement objectives for the Cambridge Large Scale Biology team to accelerate Target ID/Validation projects using complex biology models/assays through automation, automated cell-culture, imaging, and innovative bioengineering solutions.

  • Build strong relationships with BR Bioengineering teams to innovate and iterate in collaboration with local project teams on novel solutions for large scale biology in Cambridge.

  • Lead efforts to build and foster a local imaging community in Cambridge, reviewing imaging project designs and implementations across Discovery Sciences.

  • Implement Discovery Sciences AI/machine learning strategies in Cambridge for imaging data acquisition and analysis, aligned with the global strategy.

  • Scout for innovative solutions to scaling biology and prototype these through collaborations or pilot evaluations with biology teams in Discovery Sciences or Disease Areas in Cambridge.

  • Contribute to the career development of associates and maintain the culture of HTB Cambridge as a member of the Discovery Sciences HTB Cambridge Leadership Team.

Qualifications:

  • PhD with 6+ years or MS with 12+ years of experience in industry, with a strong track record in imaging technology and assay development applied to complex cell assays and models.

  • Strong expertise in deploying imaging technologies at scale as applied to genetic and/or small molecule screening.

  • Expertise in complex cell model development with an emphasis on automating and scaling assays for robustness and increased throughput.

  • Strong knowledge of assay development with a concentration on complex cell-based biology readouts (2D/3D cell models/assays) combined with automation solutions for biology at scale.

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $138,600 to $257,400/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/25 through 12/31/25, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
